The threat reflects growing anger inside the Democratic caucus over an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis that has been linked to the deaths of two people, including Alex Pretti. Democrats argue DHS leadership has failed to prevent excessive force and has not provided sufficient transparency about the agency’s actions.

A widening conflict over funding and oversight

The confrontation is also feeding into a broader Washington standoff over federal funding. Some Senate Democrats have indicated they may oppose a spending plan that includes DHS funding as currently drafted, raising the possibility of a partial shutdown if lawmakers cannot reach agreement before deadlines.
