The man stood up in the audience, shouted, and sprayed the liquid toward Omar using what was described as a syringe. A security guard quickly tackled the suspect, and attendees reacted with alarm as the situation escalated in the community center.

Despite calls from some in the room to end the event early so Omar could be examined, she continued the town hall after the attacker was subdued and removed. Omar told the crowd she would not yield to intimidation and framed her decision to proceed as a refusal to let threats dictate public engagement.

Police said the suspect was arrested and booked on an assault charge, and that forensics were called to assist at the scene. The episode prompted condemnation from local and national officials, including lawmakers from both parties, who criticized political violence and urged accountability.

The incident occurred in the context of heightened political tension in Minnesota tied to immigration enforcement and federal operations. Omar’s town hall included calls to abolish ICE and demands for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, adding to the charged atmosphere surrounding the event.

Omar later said she was not seriously harmed and emphasized that she has faced threats before. The attack revived broader concerns about the safety of public officials and the impact of hostile rhetoric on real-world violence, as authorities investigate the substance and the circumstances of the assault.
